We can’t deny people to have some fun but can we be upset when they leave a huge mess behind for others to clean up?
I had heard snipets in the Greek news about how much mess the Liverpool fans had left behind them in Athens after the Champions League final last week but I had not seen any pictures.
Now having seen them, I can see why they made such a fuss about it!!!
Syntagma Square looks like a can collection dump!!! Just take a look at the pictures for yourself below.
There were a few Athenians though who would have been very excited with the presence of these fans in their city. Their sales for beer this month was probably equal to their whole summer season’s sales!
AC Milan this morning took their revenge against Liverpool defeating them 2-1 in Athens.
The Italian side was able to reverse their loss from two years ago in Constantinople against Liverpool. Those who watched the 2005 Champions League final would remember how AC Milan squandered a 3-0 half-time lead to lose in the end in a penalty shoot-out.
I read an interesting article this morning on the Sydney Morning Herald online site. I thought I’d share it with you. Personally I believe it’s concering when your PM is seen with such “eyes” by an international organisation such as Amnesty International.
PM a short-sighted fear-monger: Amnesty
May 24, 2007 – 8:25AM
Prime Minister John Howard finds himself alongside Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe in an Amnesty International report which says they are among short-sighted fear-mongers dividing the world.
The human rights pressure group has accused Mr Howard of portraying asylum-seekers as a threat to national security.
The report also criticises Australia’s role in the war on terror and its treatment of female victims of violence.
I know it’s over and done with but on Saturday’s show there was an interesting question that was put to us by some listeners that we had on air.
The issue is whether Greece should be singing in English or whether we should only sing in our own language. It was pointed out by some listeners that if Serbia could win in their native tongue why couldn’t Greece or Cyprus?
I have to agree that I am a bit disappointed that we are singing in English and not in Greek but as someone else pointed out, English is definitely Greece’s second major language. In fact it’s not only the case in Greece but it’s also the worldwide business language.
Still, we are a nation of people proud of our ancestral past, proud of our civilisation with its history, philosophers, tragedies, architecture etc why aren’t we also promoting our much loved language?
Is victory in the Eurovision so important that we are willing to compromise our language?
After a long absence and being hosted at Cardiff’s Millenium Stadium, the FA Cup returned to its home at Wembley this Saturday.
Chelsea managed to win what seemed to be a long and tedious game. The game was score less after the 90-minutes of regulation time and was set for Extra Time. With 5 minutes to go all I was thinking was please let’s not go to penalties again!! Thankfully a nice one-two between Drogba and Lampard gave Drogba a chance in front of goal which he rarely gives up.
Of course as it happens in these major events, we also had our controversial moment when Ryan Giggs had a goal dissallowed. I assume the referee ruled that the momentum of Giggs pushed Peter Cech over the line rather than that the ball was destined to go into the goal by its own accord. I am sure that most if not all Red Devil fans saw it differently and I guess I would too if it were my team.
I visited YouTube looking for any new Nikos Vertis song clips and in my search I found one but I also found a favorite of his previous release … so here they are.
The first one is Mono Gia Sena from his latest release Mono Gia Sena. The other 2 clips arePoia Esy and Pos Na To Exigiso from the previous release Pos Perno Ta Vradya Monos. The backdrop from Pos Na To Exigiso is enough to make you book a ticket immediately for Greece this summer
Seeing that a number of you seem to be very interested with who is singing where in Greece this summer, our keen Greek scene investigator has done a bit more research for you and has compiled a few more singers and their locations.
Of course summer programs are always subject to change but we will do our best to keep the list updated
Another Eurovision gone and congratulations to Serbia!
I would like to state up front that I’m not so sure if that research paper from the university in Reading UK will help me change my mind that voting is not influenced by any political swaying. It was evident again that certain “regions” or “blocs” voted for each other, irrespective on the quality of the song.
A lunch visit to Rosebery Yeeros ended with also purchasing a new CD. After finishing my souvlaki, I wandered over to the CD shelves and saw the new releases on offer and could I resist owning one of them??
The latest acquisition is Nikos Vertis latest CD Mono Gia Sena. The selection was based on how much I enjoyed his previous release and I took the chance that I would be just as impressed this time around. There are times that you have to take such a risk, otherwise how else can we discover something new??
