The situation being faced by Aboriginal communities was a topic that was discussed at last week’s show. I don’t want to get into this issue too deeply nor take any political sides … but I do have a few queries.
Thr current John Howard government has been in power for over 8 years. The query I have is why has it taken this long for the current government to act?
Not only has the PM acted up on it this far into his reign but he has also imposed conditions that have not necessarily being discussed with the states or more importantly with the Aboriginal communities themselves.
No one can disagree that something has to be done and the government can be commended for taking measures to address the problems. It’s the timing, being an election year that makes some of us wonder is this an election ploy.
