Dalaras – Me Ena Podi Sta Astra Kai Ta Duo Stin Kolasi

Posted by evdomada on July 23, 2007

Girogos Dalaras has released his latest studio work Me Ena Podi Sta Astra kai Ta Duo Stin Kolasi.  There are 12 new songs and the songs vary in style, from your usual Dalara ballads to a few laika tracks.

Admittedly when I first listened to it I wasn’t impressed and was a little disappointed.  I wasn’t sure why I was disappointed because Dalara hasn’t impressed me since Mi Milas Kindineuei i Ellas or the work he did with Pyx Lux on Mia Vradua Sto Leverkuzen and the remake of his classic Enas Kompos I Hara Mou.  However after you listen to the CD a couple of times there are a few nice songs that I enjoy; Tha Perimeno Edo, Hanete and Se Feggaria Lipimena are some of my favorites and a few other songs are also quite good.

I’m sure Dalara fans will already have it in their cd racks but I believe for the rest that it’s an alright purchase and an enjoyable listen.

In the meantime I found a great live clip of Dalaras singing Mia Vradua sto Leverkuzen … enjoy!

6.5/10

Natasa and Sarbel … this Saturday at Enmore Theatre

Posted by evdomada on July 10, 2007

Just a friendly reminder that Natasa Theodoridou and Sarbel are performing at the Enmore Theatre this Saturday evening.  It’s another opportunity to catch a great Greek singer live … Sarbel I guess would be enjoyable to watch for most girls …

Mazo Comparisons

Posted by evdomada on July 9, 2007

After having a bit of a go at Mazo’s song from his Foivos phase I thought that I should maybe put a few clips together and you can compare the before and after.

The Foivos song I have selected is one of my favorite Mazo songs so I have not purposely picked one that I wouldn’t like.   I also don’t want to be misunderstood.  I do like Foivos and what he has done for modern Greek music.  He has composed some great songs that will be heard for many years.  He has even written a few classic for my favorite Karras the classic Tilefonise Mou and Fainomeno.

It’s just in the case of Mazonakis he is giving him songs to sing that are just a bit too much on the pop side.

Have a listen and compare the new Mazo with the old … Read the rest of this entry »

Giorgos Mazonakis Latest Song

Posted by evdomada on July 9, 2007

Mazo is back after a long break from recording new studio tracks.  For most of his fans we have been busy listening to old stuff and listening to his live album over and over again.  I was trying to remember his last studio recording and from memory it was Summer In Greece that was released for summer 2006 last year.  Not sure what you thought of it but the word dissapointing comes to mind but I guess it wasn’t meant to be a serious piece of music … at least I hope not.

Se Eho Epithimisei is a decent song from the artist who once delivered great work before joining the Foivos music machine.  Although this is also a Foivos song I think it deviates away from the standard sounds that usually come along with one of his compositions.  I better be careful though as I know that there are many of you that are Foivos fans.

Enjoy the clip!

Της Αγάπης Μαχαιριά … The Cut of Love … Coming to an end!

Posted by evdomada on July 8, 2007

One of the best dramas that I have seen on Greek television has ended in Greece but for us here in Australia there are still 5 episodes to go.  The climatic ending has started with the shootings of Dracolefteri and Irakli from the 2 opposing families.  This event obviously has boiled the blood on both sides and it’s an open war.

I have had the opportunity to watch the series to its completion and I can tell you the action and drama is non-stop right to the end.  The plot just gets heavier and more dramatic.

This drama is definitely one of my favorites of all time and if you are a big fan too, please leave a comment or email me if you want to discuss the plot further.

Iraq … Are we there for the oil???

Posted by evdomada on July 6, 2007

Saddam Oil

The defence minister Brendan Nelson yesterday made a statement that raised a few eyebrows with those following the war in Iraq story.  Rather than me misquoting him I invite you to read the articles I have posted and make your own mind up.

I have always been sceptical with WMD reason that was provided by most western leaders that wanted to invade Iraq.  Most of us sceptics immediately thought it must be for the oil.

Apart from the backflip, I am sure that this admission that we are in Iraq to protect our interests in the resources of the Middle East will stir some discussion over the next week or more.  I wonder if it will become an election debate issue as well.

Here are a couple of articles if you want to read a bit more:
