Kostas Karamanlis has decided to call an early election in Greece which is to be held on 16th September.
For those of us that sort of follow the Greek news, it seems that the decision has come out of nowhere. Of course PASOK’s leader Giorgos Papandreou welcomed the news stating that it’s because the Nea Dimokratia party have no solutions to Greece’s problems.
What else would an opposition leader say?
Personally I think that Nea Dimokratia will win easily with the majority of Athenians being content with the economic progress of the nation under their custodianship. Also, as with the situation here in Australia, the opposition is a bit weak in leadership and direction of their potential policies.
On the lighter side though, the elections have brought some concern to many Greeks …
The concern for many in Greece is that the election is being held on the same day as the championship final for the European Basketball Championship.
What if Greece is in the final??
Many have written into Greek television shows stating their concern of being able to vote and the game being on the same day.
Of course the last time I checked, voting in Greece is compulsory. So if the dilemma is too hard to handle they won’t go and vote I suppose.
