Εβδομάδα Είναι … Και Κυλάει

Winter has finally arrived in Athens and that also means that the nightclubs have been at it for a few weeks for this winter’s new shows.  I have tried to compile a list of who is singing where in Athens this winter 2008.  Unfortunately I am not having as much luck with sourcing the information for what’s happening up in the northern capital of Thessaloniki but the search will continue.

Also, it is our intention to keep the information as current as possible, as well as any other performances that will be happening over in Athens for those of us overseas planning a trip to the homeland this winter.

ΔΙΟΓΕΝΗΣ STUDIO
Giannis Parios and Marinela, two artists that are amongst the best voices that we have heard in Greece performing together can only produce magic. Parios’ son Haris Varthakouris accompanies the two legends and their performances are Thursday to Saturday.

ΟΠΕΡΑ
A duo that can easily be tagged the master and his apprentice, Tolis Voskopoulos & Lefteris Pantazis in one night is a definitely one of the must see performances.  The two consummate performers with followers across many generations.  They are on from Thursday to Saturday night.

ΚΕΝΤΡΟ ΑΘΗΝΩΝ
Dimitris Mitropanos makes his return to the Athenian nightclub scene.  Another legend of the Greek music industry and he is joined by ex-Pyx Lax member Babis Stokas and the mysterious Manolis Lidakis.  Performances are on from Thursday to Saturday.

ΕΝΑΣΤΡΟΝ
Stars of the modern age Notis Sfakianakis and Keti Garbi are performing together at Enastron this winter.  You would not be missing out on this show if you are in Athens unless you have a very good excuse.  They are performing Thursday to Saturday night.

VOX
The queen of the Athenian scene Peggy Zina is joined by the Fame Story success stories Kostas Karafotis and Nino.  Performances are on Thursday to Saturday at Vox.

ΒΟΤΑΝΙΚΟΣ
Natasa Theodoridou and Giorgos Mazonakis … do we need to say anything more?  Tamta also performs with them at Botanikos and they are on Thursday to Saturday night.

ΙΕΡΑ ΟΔΟΣ
How can anyone seriously resist seeing Pashalis Terzis perform?  He is joined with Eurovision diva Elena Paparizou and Manos Pyrovolakis at Iera Odos from Thursday through to Saturday night.

CAN-CAN
A night of laika with Haris Kostopoulos, Katerina Stanisi, Stathis Xenos and Giannis Kritikos.  The bouzoukia will be playing Thursday through to Sunday at the Can-Can.

CARAMELA
Panos Kalidis and  Julia Alexandratou have a heavy schedule this winter, performing from Tuesday through to Sunday nights at Caramela.

FIX
A good line-up is on at the Fix with Kely Kelekidou, Giorgos Tsalikis and one of my favorite up and coming singers Nikos Oikonomopoulos

FRANGELICO
Frangelico also has a young line up with Hristos Menidiatis, Eleana Papaioannou and Andreas Stamos.

MAYA MAYA
The self anointed diva Antzela Dimitriou is joined at Maya Maya by nissiotika duo Mathaios Giannoulis & Lefteris Vazaios.

POSIDONIO
Nikos Kourkoulis headlines at Posidonio this winter with other support acts.  I have a lot of respect for Nikos and taking over at the Posidonio is a sign that he has earned the respect of the Athenian nightlife.

REX
Giannis Ploutarhos is now at the Rex with his great collection of songs.  He is the main attraction with a few support acts from Thursday to Sunday.

ZOOM
Nikos Papazoglou and his beautiful unique voice is performing at Zoom Friday and Saturday nights.

ΑΘΗΝΩΝ ΑΡΕΝΑ
Antonis Remos multitude of fans can see him and his support acts at the Athinon Arena this winter.  A singer that never disappoints with plenty of songs and ability to sing the classics as well.

ΑΝΟΔΟΣ STAGE
The contemporary folk-rock artist Giannis Kotsiras is joined with one of the legends of Greek rock-folk Kostas Tournas.  Lakis Papadopoulos also performs with them Friday to Saturday at Anodos Stage.

ΑΣΤΕΡΙΑ
Many people believe that Panos Kiamos is one of the best live acts at the moment and he is on at Asteria.  The beautiful Amaryllis is performing with Kiamos from Wednesday to Saturday night.

ΓΡΑΜΜΕΣ
The 80′s legend Giorgos Margaritis still keeps his followers entertained at Grammes and he has the younger Litsa Giakousi accompanying him from Thursday through to Saturday night.

ΙΦΙΓΕΝΕΙΑ
Sotis Volanis is on at Ifigeneia Thursday to Monday nights.  He has released a few CDs although they haven’t been able to repeat the success of his debut album.

ΜΑΣΚΕΣ LIVE
Lena Papadopoulou has a number of good songs and although in my opinion she has a great voice I think she is better to look at than to listen to.  She is on at Maskes Live with a few support acts Thursday to Monday nights.

ΜΟΥΣΕΣ
Themos Adamantidis has a great voice and a repertoire spanning many years.  Alongside him is one of my favorite new singers Aggeliki Iliadi, who also has a very nice voice and a few very good songs.  Heart-throb and ex-Fame Story singer Giorgos Hristou also joins them at Mouses with Nancy Alexiadou.  Performances are on Wednesday to Sunday night.

ΕΜΠΑΤΗ NORTH
You can arrange a  mid-90′s flashback night with your parea at Empati North with Petros Imvrios, Spyros Spyrakos and Sambrina.  I can’t say this would be a must for me but I am sure that there are many fans out there wanting to see this trio.

ΝΟΤΕΣ
Alekos Zazopoulos is in my opinion a great laika singer and should be able to provide a great night’s entertainment.  He is accompanied by Elena Grekou from Wednesday through to Sunday night.

ΟΥΡΑΝΟΣ
The experienced Giorgos Daskoulidis is accompanied by Stelios Dionysiou and Eleni Karousaki at Ouranos Wednesday to Saturday.

ΡΟΔΟΝ ΕΝ ΨΥΡΡΗ
Fani Drakopoulou and Hristos Holidis are performing together at the Rodon.  I can’t say I am a fan but she has her followers that enjoy her performances but I am not sure if its for her singing.

ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΝΟΤΟΥ
Composer and singer Thanos Mikroutsikos is accompanied by Miltiadis Pashalidis  & Rita Antonopoulou on Sunday and Monday nights at Stavros Tou Notou.

Whereas on Friday and Saturday nights the velvety voiced Melina Kana and the sombre Pantelis Thalassinos are performing together at the same venue.

ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΝΟΤΟΥ – ΑΠΕΝΑΝΤΙ
Who can resist these two contemporary female singers, Melina Aslanidou & Rallia Hristidou?  Both their musical talents and their beauty can be seen this winter on Friday and Saturday nights.

ΧΑΡΑΜΑ
Dimitris Mpasis and Sofia Papazoglou perform live Thursday through to Sunday night.
